Every JUWEL aquarium is already equipped for easy installation of an automatic feeder by JUWEL. The EasyFeed can be programmed for two feeding cycles a day, and allows you to feed your fish at intervals of six hours. JUWEL Aquarium has developed the SmartFeed to allow for more comfortable feeding with a more comprehensive range of functions. This automatic feeder can be programmed for three feeding cycles a day with 8 different dosing levels. The integrated display facilitates programming and provides for an overview of your settings. Two conveyor screws for flake and granulate feed are included, so you can adjust your automatic feeder to your type of feeding. A feed chamber extension is also included, to allow for automatic feeding during even longer periods of absence.
-
Both models are ideal tools for cleaning your JUWEL inside filter and the ground material of your JUWEL aquarium. The AquaClean works by means of the Quickstart system, that transports the water flow and dirt into a bucket by means of a shaking motion and without any inconvenient suction. The AquaClean 2.0 has been revised, and the previously used Quickstart system has been replaced by the Easy Start System. Simple, repeated squeezing of the pump activates the water flow immediately.
Aquariums/Cabinet

A JUWEL aquarium can be operated extremely cost-efficiently. It is important to remember that the electricity consumption depends on various factors, such as the size of the aquarium, the power of the pump, the lighting and the water temperature.
To measure the electricity consumption of a typical JUWEL aquarium, we took into account 8 hours of lighting per day, an ambient temperature of 22°C and a water temperature of 24°C, as well as three summer months without heating.
Based on an electricity price of 40 cents per kilowatt hour, the average electricity consumption of a JUWEL aquarium is about 29 cents per day. The precise electricity costs will depend on the model of the aquarium, as shown in the table below:
-
No. Our aquariums are produced using robot-supported processes. This includes the automated application of silicone to the bottom pane. The bulge is merely a point where the applied silicone seams overlap, which is necessary for production. This does not affect the leak-tightness of your aquarium. You can use the aquarium without any reservations.
-
Our production is geared towards producing complete aquariums. Unfortunately we are not able to consider any special requests with regard to our equipment. This is not possible, due to the fact that our manufacturing process is only suitable for serial production.
-
The JUWEL aquarium features a safety base frame which ensures an even distribution of the weight. Please do not use a mat under any circumstances!
-
We guarantee all of our products for 2 years from the date of purchase. Filter sponges and fluorescent tubes as well as all components that are subject to normal wear, e.g. the impeller of the pump, are excluded from the guarantee. Any guarantee claim must be substantiated with a valid proof of purchase.
-
Arrange the aquarium in accordance with the instructions for use and assemble the filter. In this context, please make sure that the filter media are positioned correctly, e.g. as this is also shown on the packaging of the filter display box. Remove all plastic bags that might protect the filter media (carbon sponge, filter floss, Nitrax sponge and optional Cirax/Phorax basket). If you wish to glue a background or a filter cover into your aquarium, this is the best time. Then load the aquarium with the ground material and the plants as well as other decorative elements, e.g. stones and roots. After that, fill the aquarium with water. Tip: It is best to carefully pour the water through the filter in order to protect the existing set-up. Run the aquarium without fish for approx. 10 days in order to let the important bacteria form in the filter sponges and clear the water of pollutants. Use bioBoost to activate new filter media faster, and thus shorten the run-in period of your aquarium. Use the advice of your specialist retailer.
-
Unfortunately we are not able to make any general statements about an aquarium’s service life, as this depends on a wide range of different factors. However, we do have customers who have been using their aquariums for more than 20 years without any problems.
-
Thanks to specially developed float glass, JUWEL aquariums can bear a multiple of their filled weight. Please make sure, however, to observe your base cabinet’s load capacity. For details about the maximum load capacity, please see the technical data provided on our website.
-
On current models, you will find your aquarium’s model name on the support beam. The model can also be specified based on the aquarium’s shape and width. Our service team will be happy to help you with this.
Decoration
-
Once you have cut the background to size, you should attach it using a specially developed glue. JUWEL Conexo is an extremely effective glue and is particularly suited for permanently attaching plastics to glass. JUWEL Conexo can also be used on moist surfaces. Videos about how to correctly install the JUWEL decoration elements are provided in the image gallery for the respective product on our website.
-
To enhance the effect of your film background, use a cloth to apply a thin and even coating of JUWEL PosterFix to the outside of your aquarium’s back pane before attaching the background. Then press on the poster and use a piece of plastic card to scrape out any surplus PosterFix and any air bubbles that may have formed. PosterFix prevents unattractive light refraction, thus increasing the colours and structure of your motif to great effect.
-
You will find this information both on the packaging of our JUWEL aquarium backgrounds, and in the image gallery for the respective product on our website.
-
All JUWEL backgrounds and filter covers are made of highly condensed polyurethane and coated with epoxy resin. This complex production process makes it very easy to cut the colour backgrounds to size whilst providing an extremely tough, colourfast surface.
-
All decorative items from JUWEL Aquarium are suitable for saltwater.
-
Filter covers can be cut precisely to size using the enclosed template. Backgrounds must be cut to the dimensions of the aquarium. Videos about how to correctly cut the JUWEL decoration elements are provided in the image gallery for the respective product on our website.
-
All backgrounds and filter covers come with a suitable saw. This allows you to precisely cut your JUWEL background and filter cover to size.
Filtering
-
The circulating pump of the JUWEL inside filter pulls the water from the upper and lower water layers of the aquarium into the filter. Due to the special construction of the filter, the water passes from the top to the bottom through the filter media which greatly simplifies the filter maintenance. The filter media are: The white poly pad as mechanical pre-filter. Tip: It absorbs the rough dirt and prevents the other filter media from clogging quickly. The replacement is realised in a simple, quick manner and ensures the full functionality of the system. The black carbon sponge binds chemical contaminations. The green Nitrax sponge contains special micro-organisms that break down nitrate and consequently counter the growth of algae. The blue coarse filter sponge represents the biological filter stage I. Separation of the water flow Part 1 of the filtered water is directly returned to the aquarium through the riser of the pump. Part 2 of the filtered water moves to the “second” filter stage of the biological “slow filter”. Cirax, the white basket with the filter ceramics, filters with a large surface under aerobic (= oxygen-enriched) conditions. The blue, fine-pored filter sponge represents biological filter stage I which operates in a strong manner under anaerobic (= oxygen-deficient) conditions. After that, the water that has been filtered repeatedly flows back into the aquarium.
-
The JUWEL inside filter "Bioflow" is a biologically operating aquarium filter. The filters are adapted to the respective aquarium volume in an ideal manner: The capacity of the filter pump is designed for twice or 3 times the throughput per hour (e. g. Rio 180 = 180 litres at 600 l/h pump capacity). Thanks to its great volume, the filter features extensive backup capacity and it has a long service life (e. g. fewer maintenance intervals). The JUWEL inside filter is equipped with various filter media that facilitate biological pollutant degradation performance. The dual flow principle: A unique feature of the JUWEL inside filter is the dual flow principle in the models Bioflow M, L and XL. The water passes through the two high volume filter blocks at different speeds. This additionally optimises the biological filter process. Scientifically tested: The JUWEL filter system has successfully been tested with regard to its effectiveness in scientific long-term tests by independent institutes a number of times. All JUWEL inside filters are designed with extensive backup capacity, guaranteeing optimised filtering for top water quality. Users appreciate the inside filter’s ease of use and built-in safety: The water stays inside the aquarium!
-
The run-in period of the Bioflow filter may last 6 - 8 weeks.
-
There may be various different reasons, if your pump is unpleasantly noisy. Please check that your pump is positioned correctly, and make sure to observe the 6 to 8 week run-in period when taking your Bioflow filter into service. To ensure optimised functionality and running smoothness for your pump, we recommend that the pump is cleaned on a regular basis, and that wear parts such as the impeller and axle along with the rubber bearings, are replaced every 12 months.
-
In addition to the filter media fitted at the factory, JUWEL Aquarium offers a range of additional filter media. 2. If your aquarium shows increased ammonium values, you should used our filter medium “Amorax”. It quickly and effectively binds ammonium, prevents the formation of ammonia and promotes the vitality of your fish. 3. If you perceive odour formation in your aquarium, or if the water changes in colour, you should use the filter medium “Carbax”. 4. The filter medium “Cirax” provides an even greater surface for filter bacteria to settle, than the fine filter sponge bioPlus, and it thus provides for a consistent filtering effect in your aquarium. 5. If your aquarium shows increased phosphate values, you should use our filter medium “Phorax”. This medium removes phosphates from your aquarium, and it effectively reduces algae growth and promotes improved plant growth.
-
"BIOFLOW M/L/XL: We recommend that Carbax is used in the upper filter insert, between bioCarb and Nitrax. Amorax, Cirax and Phorax should be placed at the top of the lower filter insert. BIOFLOW SUPER: Carbax, Amorax, Cirax and Phorax can be used in the upper part of the filter basket, instead of the Nitrax sponge. Please refer to our change flyer in the download centre for information about the exact placement of our filter media."
-
If you are operating the EccoSkim using the filter mount on the filter itself, it is not possible to also attach the FilterGrid to the filter. However, you can attach the EccoSkim to the glass using the provided suction mount, to make room to mount the FilterGrid to the intake slots of the filter.
-
Yes. However, you will need to individually adjust the cut-out, rather than using the template on the back of the cover. If a FilterCover is already mounted to your filter, you can carefully enlarge the cut-out at the bottom using a box cutter to make the FilterGrid fit.
-
It goes without saying that the manner and the frequency of cleaning the JUWEL filter depend on the individual conditions. Our recommendations to clean or replace the media are based on average experience: Replace the white poly pad on a weekly basis. Replace the black carbon sponge approx. every month if needed. Replace the optional Carbax filter basket after approx. 2 months. Replace the green Nitrax sponge every 2 months. Replace the blue, coarse-pored filter sponge after approx. 3 months. Replace Cirax filter baskets with ceramics after approx. 12 months, Phorax after approx. 2 weeks and Amorax after approx. 3 months. Replace the blue, fine-pored filter sponge after approx. 9-12 months. Important: For safety reasons, always disconnect all devices that are operated in the water from the power grid during the filter maintenance. Never replace all blue filter media at the same time. Check the water level in the filter at regular intervals; if the water level drops, the media will need to be replaced due to the fact that they are clogged and prevent the water from flowing through them.
-
We recommend inserting Cirax at the top spot in the lower filter insert.
-
The impeller is the rotor equipped with a magnet in the pump. It should be replaced every 12 months in order to ensure operating quietness.
-
If the filter media have been clogged, the water quantity passing through the filter is reduced. The water level in the filter slowly begins to drop. The capacity of the pumps is designed in such a manner that they have sufficient reserves. Tip: Check the water level in the filter housing every week, when replacing the filter floss. If it dropped in comparison to the water surface of the aquarium, carefully flush the upper filter media or replace them.
-
You may find the respective information in the instructions for use in the aquarium passport. If you have misplaced your aquarium passport, you are able to access the file “compatibility chart” in our download area. Based on the size of your filter media, you are then able to identify the filter system used in your aquarium. Please feel free to contact our customer service for assistance.
-
The pump is arranged next to the filter media in the intake chamber of the filter housing. Advantage: Free access to the filter media simplifies the filter maintenance!
-
With the exception of the Eccoflow 1500 that may be installed in the filter Bioflow L/6.0 and XL/8.0 only, you may insert all JUWEL pumps into each filter. Simply keep in mind for pumps 280 and 1500 that they do not fit into the Bioflow filter. And conversely the pumps Bioflow 280 and 1500 do not fit into the filters Compact, Standard or Jumbo.
General
-
You can order spare parts from your specialist Juwel retailer. Find your nearest retailer in our "Where to buy" section.
-
Our warranty period for all parts of the aquarium is 2 years from the purchasing date. Filter sponges and fluorescent tubes T5/T8 as well as all components that are subject to normal wear, e. g. the impeller of the pump, are excluded from the warranty. The basis for the warranty is the availability of a valid proof of purchase.
LED Lighting
-
The Primo series features a NovoLux LED White as standard. This light unit is particularly energy efficient and it meets the requirements for operating an aquarium. In order to increase the satisfaction of your individual requirements, you can upgrade your aquarium by placing up to three NovoLux LED lamps in the cover.
-
LED lighting media have a longer service life than conventional fluorescent tubes. The NovoLux LED, MultiLux LED, HeliaLux LED and HeliaLux Spectrum have a 2 year warranty from the date of purchase.
-
The Primo series features a NovoLux LED White as standard. You can upgrade your aquarium’s light system by placing up to three NovoLux LED lamps in the cover. The additional lamps can be simply attached to the cover, using the included clips. The NovoLux LED can furthermore be operated with a suitable controller. Sunrise, sunset and the duration of dimming can be programmed individually.
-
The MultiLux LED that is installed in the factory (from 2017) is not dimmable. By switching to the HeliaLux system (LED or Spectrum) combined with HeliaLux SmartControl you are able to implement individual daily sequences and dimming curves.
-
The HeliaLux LED is equipped with SMD LEDs. These are brighter than conventional LEDs, while using 50 % less energy than T5 fluorescent tubes. The light bar also requires less room than the MultiLux LED light unit, so handling the elements inside the aquarium becomes easier. The HeliaLux LED can furthermore be operated with a suitable controller. Sunrise, sunset and the duration of dimming can be programmed individually.
-
The HeliaLux Spectrum is a specially developed full-spectrum LED with maximum performance. Special red, green and blue LEDs have been employed in the HeliaLux Spectrum to create intense colours and maximum contrast. They cover the full spectrum and are ideal for supplementing the light-intense white 9000K and 6500K LEDs. When combined with the HeliaLux SmartControl, they enable you to adjust the lighting conditions in your aquarium to meet your requirements. In addition to sunrises and sunsets, you can easily programme lighting phases.
-
The HeliaLux Spectrum is only suitable for use in fresh water aquariums. It is not suitable for saltwater aquariums. We recommend the MultiLux LED with the LED lighting media Marine and Blue to provide for ideal conditions in saltwater aquariums.
-
The UniversalFit holder allows for the HeliaLux LED / HeliaLux Spectrum also to be used in aquariums from other manufacturers.
Saltwater
-
Each JUWEL aquarium of the model series Lido, Rio, Vision and Trigon is equipped with a MultiLux LED comprising an LED DAY and an LED NATURE as standard. JUWEL Aquarium offers two further LED tubes for your saltwater aquarium that you can use by simply replacing the existing LED tubes. Both the LED MARINE and the LED BLUE are designed to recreate the lighting conditions of a coral reef and they specifically promote the growth of your corals. The LED MARINE with its brilliantly white 14,000 Kelvin light provides for bright conditions, while the LED BLUE creates fascinatingly deep blue tones.
-
If you are using a MultiLux T5 light unit in your aquarium, JUWEL Aquarium recommends using the fluorescent tubes HiLite T5 Marine and HiLite T5 Blue. Both lighting media are designed to recreate the lighting conditions of a coral reef and they specifically promote the growth of your corals. The HiLite T5 Marine with its brilliantly white 14,000 Kelvin light provides for bright conditions, while the HiLite T5 Blue creates fascinatingly deep blue tones.
-
The filter media filter floss, carbon sponge, fine filter sponge and coarse filter sponge that are fitted at the factory can also be used for saltwater aquariums. The optional filter media such as Amorax, Carbax, Cirax and Phorax are also suitable for saltwater aquariums. Nitrate remover Nitrax, on the other hand, should be used for fresh water aquariums only.
T5/T8 Lighting
-
To ensure waterproofness of your JUWEL aquarium light unit, we recommend that the fitting rings are replaced once a year. When using a T8 or T5 light unit, the fluorescent tubes should also be replaced on this occasion.
-
The MultiLux LED features a higher light intensity while saving up to 50 % of energy compared to conventional T5 technology. Further advantages of the MultiLux LED include a longer service life of the LED tubes, and durable light quality compared to T5 fluorescent tubes.
-
The T8 fluorescent tubes should be replaced every 10 to 12 months, to ensure the tubes’ luminosity. The HiLite T5 fluorescent tube should also be replaced every 10 to 12 months, with the exception of the HiLite Marine and the HiLite Blue. Those two models should be replaced more frequently, every 6 to 8 months.
-
It is not possible to replace a T5 HiLite fluorescent tube with an LED tube. The MultiLux light units may look identical, however, they feature different integrated control units for the fluorescent tubes’ ignition voltage. Each control units is designed for the specific light unit. If you would like to change to LED operation, you should buy a designated MultiLux LED light unit or a HeliaLux light unit. Both products are a perfect match for your aquarium and they are quick and easy to install.
-
Each JUWEL aquarium of the model series Lido, Rio, Vision and Trigon is equipped with a MultiLux LED comprising an LED DAY and an LED NATURE as standard. This provides for brilliant lighting and excellent plant growth. The replaceable tubes create an optimum light spectrum, while saving up to 50% of energy compared to conventional T5 light units. While the LED DAY highlights your animal and plant world with its bright and stimulating light, the LED NATURE provides for a warm and natural light that promotes photosynthesis of your plants and brings out the green tones in your aquarium.
-
We recommend the use of reflectors for T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes for two reasons: Reflectors increase the illumination by 100% which is particularly positive, especially in case of plant aquariums. In addition, they serve in a very convenient manner as a visor which simplifies the maintenance of the aquarium a great deal. All steps in the aquarium may be performed in a more successful and comfortable manner under full illumination. LED light units (such as the MultiLux LED, NovoLux LED, HeliaLux LED, HeliaLux Spectrum) do not require reflectors. The LED light units are already optimally adjusted to the aquariums and they have an ideal beam angle.
-
As the plants prefer stable light conditions, the lighting cannot be switched on in different steps.
-
No, you can only use T5 HiLite tubes in a T5 HiLite light unit as these are fitted with special electronic ballasts and have the correct special sockets for the tubes. T5 and T8 are not interchangeable.
-
The spectrum of the T5/T8 fluorescent tubes or the LED lighting media is printed on the respective packaging and you can also find it in the image gallery on the product page.
-
Any JUWEL Aquarium that utilises a Multilux light unit (central black bar), i.e. all aquariums of the series Lido, Rio, Vision, Trigon, Panorama and Delta, may be converted by simply replacing the old light unit with a new T5 HiLite version.
-
As the commercially available standard T5 tubes were only developed for general room illumination purposes, the lighting technology had to be adapted to the common aquarium dimensions in order to ensure the complete illumination over the entire length of the aquariums. As a result, we are able to completely illuminate the entire area of our aquariums with lengths of 60, 80, 100, 120 and 150 cm with high illumination.
